Because of that, they're not truly sentient, therefore they don't necessarily avoid the obstacles - resulting in them being eliminated from the game.

Mercedes is a big fan of classic American western movies and likes to play cowboys with Zeze.

Her fascination with the western genre goes as far as her fashion sense. In the original character designs, Mercedes was wearing cowboy boots, but since the film takes place indoors, she's not wearing any shoes. However, the boots are visible in the background of the film, next to the entrance.

A cowboy has to lace his boots tightly before going on a run in order to avoid any accidents.
